Jorasanko Rajbari
Jorasanko Rajbari, also known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari, is a historic mansion located in the Jorasanko neighborhood of North Kolkata, West Bengal. It is the ancestral home of the Tagore family and the birthplace of the renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore. The mansion now houses the Rabindra Bharati University and the Rabindra Bharati Museum, which showcases the history of the Tagore family and their contributions to the Bengal Renaissance and the Brahmo Samaj.
The mansion was built in 1784 by Nilmoni Thakur and later expanded by Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, Rabindranath's grandfather. The name "Jorasanko" comes from the two small bridges ("sanko" in Bengali) that were present on the land donated by the Sett family to Prince Dwarkanath Tagore.
