The Kalrayan Hills are a significant range within the Eastern Ghats in Tamil Nadu, spanning about 1,095 square kilometers. They act as a natural divide between the Kaveri River basin in the south and the Palar River basin in the north.

The hills range from 2,000 to 3,000 feet in height and are divided into two main parts: the northern Chinna (little) Kalrayans averaging 2,700 feet and the southern Periya (big) Kalrayans averaging 4,000 feet. The landscape includes grassy jungles, deciduous forests, and isolated patches of shola evergreen forests. The area features waterfalls such as Megam and Periyar Falls, and the Gomukhi Dam at the foothills supports local water needs.

The Kalrayan Hills host tribal communities, predominantly the Malayali tribe, and much of the range remains largely unexplored, offering a peaceful atmosphere and a temperate climate that attracts trekkers and nature lovers.
