Kaneval Lake

Kaneval Lake, also known as Kanewal Lake, is a tranquil freshwater lake located in Tarapur Taluka of Anand district in Gujarat. Originally constructed by the British around a century ago, it was designed to supply water to nearby villages.

Today, it serves as a vital source of irrigation and drinking water for over 120 villages through multiple water supply schemes. The lake spans a vast area and features three islands—Isanpur, Valli, and Rail—each with its own small community engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. These islands are largely off-grid, relying on solar energy for electricity. The lake is also a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.

Declared a bird sanctuary by the Forest Department, it attracts a wide variety of migratory and local birds, including cormorants, ducks, sarus cranes, and storks. The best time to visit is between September and March, when the ecosystem is most vibrant. Boating facilities are available, and visitors can enjoy peaceful rides to the islands, especially Valli Island, which has been developed into a charming picnic spot with games and scenic views.
