Kannur Light House

Kannur Lighthouse, also known as Cannanore Lighthouse, is a historic and iconic structure located near Payyambalam Beach in Kannur, Kerala. Built in 1903 by the British, the lighthouse stands at a height of 23 meters (75 feet) and offers spectacular views of the Arabian Sea and surrounding areas.

Its red and white cylindrical tower, with a balcony and small lantern, is a striking feature against the coastal landscape.

Adjacent to the lighthouse is a small museum that displays various artifacts used in lighthouse operations, including a 19th-century double wick lamp, an optic from the Lakshadweep Lighthouse, and a fog bell. Visitors can also watch a short film about the history of lighthouses in the museum.

The Kannur Lighthouse is still active today and serves as an important navigational aid for ships in the Arabian Sea. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse, offering panoramic views of Kannur city, Payyambalam Beach, and the Arabian Sea. It is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, especially during the evening when the lighthouse lights up.
