The temple is situated under a large fig tree, known as the Chain Tree, believed to be haunted by the spirit of Karinthandan. According to folklore, Karinthandan guided a British engineer to discover the mountain pass through Wayanad, but the engineer betrayed and killed him to take credit for the discovery.
The tree is bound by chains, said to have been placed by a local priest to contain Karinthandan's spirit, ensuring it wouldn’t haunt the travelers. The temple and the tree stand as a symbolic reminder of this legend and the area's rich heritage. Visitors often stop by to pay respects and embrace the unique atmosphere.
