Kesarbagh Wildlife Sanctuary

Kesarbagh Wildlife Sanctuary in Dholpur, Rajasthan, covers an area of about 14.76 square kilometers and was established in 1955. It consists of dry deciduous thorny forest with tree species such as Anogeissus pendula, Balanites aegyptica, and Butea monosperma. The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of fauna including sloth bears, hyenas, jackals, jungle cats, wild boars, Indian wolves, leopards, spotted deer, and Indian gazelles.

It also hosts various bird species like Indian vultures, Indian peafowl, and birds of prey along with reptiles such as Indian rock pythons and monitor lizards. Located near the Chambal River, the sanctuary benefits ecologically from the river's clean waters, which also support rare river dolphins and crocodiles.

Kesarbagh Wildlife Sanctuary offers a peaceful natural habitat ideal for wildlife observation and bird watching, with strategically placed watchtowers enhancing the visitor experience. The best time to visit is from November to March when the weather is pleasant and wildlife spotting is favored.

Access points include the nearby Agra airport and Dholpur railway station, and the sanctuary’s historic Kesar Bagh Palace, once used by royal families for hunting, adds cultural significance to the site.
