King Edward Memorial Hall
King Edward Memorial Hall, now known as Kanpur Sangrahalaya, is a historic building located in Phool Bagh Grounds, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Originally constructed by the British as a memorial to King Edward VII, the hall was established to commemorate his visit to Cawnpore (now Kanpur) in 1876.
The funds for its construction were raised through public contributions from European traders and Indian merchants. During World War I, the hall's construction was interrupted, and it was repurposed as a rehabilitation hospital for wounded British soldiers.
After the war, it became an orthopedic hospital and later housed the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute in 1920. Following India's independence in 1947, the hall was renamed Gandhi Bhawan and eventually transformed into Kanpur Sangrahalaya in 1999.
