Kungri Gompa, also known as Kungri Monastery, is a revered Buddhist monastery located in the picturesque Pin Valley of Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. Situated around 10 kilometers from Attargo and 3 kilometers from Gulling, this monastery is perched at an elevation of approximately 3,600 meters, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
Built in the year 1330, Kungri Gompa is the second oldest monastery in the Lahaul and Spiti Valley and holds the distinction of being the only monastery that belongs to the Nyingmapa order of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery consists of three separate rectangular blocks, all facing the eastern direction, and is adorned with exquisite silk paintings of various Buddhist deities on its inner walls. It also houses a vast collection of sacred Tibetan texts, including over 300 volumes of Kenjur and Tenjur, carefully preserved in white muslin.
The serene ambiance of Kungri Gompa, combined with its rich cultural heritage, makes it a popular destination for Buddhist scholars, pilgrims, and tourists from around the world.
