Lakh Bahosi Wildlife Sanctuary, located near the villages of Lakh and Bahosi in Kannauj district, Uttar Pradesh, spans about 80 square kilometers and is one of India's largest bird sanctuaries. Established in 1988, the sanctuary encompasses two shallow lakes and adjoining wetlands that serve as important breeding and nesting grounds for numerous migratory and local bird species.
Each year, between November and March, around 50,000 waterfowl including species like greater spotted eagle, painted storks, pelicans, and various ducks flock to the sanctuary. Besides birds, animals like jackals, blue bulls, mongooses, and fishing cats also inhabit the area.
The sanctuary is recognized as an Important Bird Area and protected under the National Wetland Conservation Programme, attracting bird watchers and nature enthusiasts who visit to enjoy the rich avian diversity and peaceful natural environment, with the best visiting period being December to February.
