Lal Darwaja
The Lal Darwaja Mosque, also known as the Red Portal Mosque, is a historical mosque located in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Built in 1447 by Queen Rajye Bibi, the wife of Sultan Mahmud Sharqi of the Sharqi Dynasty, the mosque was dedicated to Sayyid Ali Dawood Kutubbudin, a revered saint.
The mosque was constructed using stones from demolished temples, including those from the Padmesvara temple near the Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.
The mosque features three gateways, with the eastern one being the largest and most important. It also has a courtyard and beautiful Islamic architecture, including intricate carvings and a large dome. The mosque was originally built as a private mosque for the queen and also included a religious school (Madrasa) for local Muslim residents.
