Landfall Island Wildlife Sanctuary
Landfall Island Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1987, is situated on Landfall Island, the northernmost island of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Covering about 29.28 square kilometers, the sanctuary features dense tropical rainforests, mangroves, lagoons, creeks, and sandy beaches, providing a rich habitat for diverse wildlife.
It is home to rare species such as hawksbill and green sea turtles, Andaman water monitors, and numerous near-extinct birds like the Andaman crake and white-headed starling. The island's marine ecosystem is well-preserved, offering excellent opportunities for snorkeling, swimming, and wildlife observation.
The sanctuary is inhabited by indigenous tribes, who largely avoid outside contact, so visitors are advised to respect their privacy. Accessible by ferry from Port Blair, the best time to visit is from November to April, when the tropical climate is pleasant and ideal for exploration.
