Lohagad is a historic hill fort located in Pune district, Maharashtra, near the hill station of Lonavala, rising to about 1,033 meters (3,389 feet) above sea level. Known as the "Iron Fort," it is connected by a small mountain range to the nearby Visapur Fort. The fort has a rich history, having been controlled by various dynasties including the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Bahamanis, Mughals, and Marathas.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured Lohagad in 1648, lost it briefly, then regained it in 1670 and used it to store treasures from his Surat campaign. The fort features four main gates in good condition, many old structures like a dargah, temples, and a large water tank constructed during the Peshwa period. It is a popular trekking destination offering scenic views and insight into Maharashtra's cultural heritage.
