Lower Lake
The Lower Lake, also known as Chhota Talab or Shahpura Lake, is an artificial lake located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Built in 1794 by Chote Khan, a minister of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur, the lake was created to enhance the beauty of the city.
It is separated from the Upper Lake by an earthen dam and together, they form the Bhoj Wetland, a Ramsar site.
The Lower Lake covers an area of approximately 1.29 square kilometers and has a catchment area of about 9.6 square kilometers. The lake receives seepage from the Upper Lake and drainage from 28 sewage-filled nullahs, which has led to pollution issues over time.
Despite this, the lake remains a popular spot for locals and tourists, offering a peaceful and scenic environment.
