The Madras War Cemetery is located in Nandambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1952 by the Imperial War Graves Commission (now the Commonwealth War Graves Commission) to honor the Commonwealth service personnel who died during the Second World War. The cemetery covers an area of 2.75 acres and contains the graves of 856 Commonwealth service people.
The cemetery also includes the Madras 1914-1918 War Memorial, which commemorates over 1,039 servicemen who died during the First World War. The memorial features plaques with the names of British and Commonwealth soldiers and the inscription, "Their name liveth for evermore".
