Built by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma in the 19th century, the palace is an excellent example of traditional Kerala architecture, featuring intricate woodwork and elegant design.
The name Kuthiramalika translates to "Mansion of Horses" due to the 122 wooden horse sculptures that adorn the eaves of the structure. The palace houses a rich collection of royal artifacts, including the famous ivory throne, traditional musical instruments, and portraits of the Travancore royal family.
The building was left unoccupied for more than a century after Maharaja Swathi Thirunal's demise in 1846, and in 1995, a portion of the palace was converted into a museum to showcase its historical treasures.
