Malcha Mahal, also known as Wilayat Mahal, is a Tughlaq-era hunting lodge located in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Built by Firuz Shah Tughlaq in 1325, the structure was later inhabited by Begum Wilayat Mahal, who claimed to be a descendant of the Royal House of Awadh. The Indian government reportedly allotted the Mahal to her in May 1985, following her prolonged protest demanding compensation for her ancestral property.
The Mahal gained notoriety due to its mysterious and tragic history. Begum Wilayat Mahal lived there with her children, Prince Ali Raza (Cyrus) and Princess Sakina Mahal, in isolation, without electricity or modern amenities. She died by suicide in 1993, and her son Cyrus continued to live there until his death in 2017.
The building is now mostly in ruins, surrounded by dense forest, adding to its eerie reputation.
