Malik-e-Maidan Canon
The Malik-e-Maidan, also known as the "Lord of the Battlefield," is a colossal cannon located at the Bijapur Fort in Vijayapura, Karnataka. Cast in 1549 by the Persian engineer Muhammad Bin Husain Rumi for Sultan Burhan Nizam Shah I of Ahmednagar, this massive artillery piece was later presented to Sultan Ali Adil Shah I of Bijapur.
The cannon played a significant role in the Battle of Talikota in 1565, where it was used by the Deccan Sultanates against the Vijayanagara Empire.
Standing at 4.45 meters (14.6 feet) in length and weighing 55 tons, the Malik-e-Maidan is the largest surviving medieval cannon in the world. Its muzzle is intricately decorated with a lion's head, symbolizing its ferocity and power.
The cannon's impressive size and historical significance make it a major attraction for visitors to the Bijapur Fort.
