The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), located in Darjeeling, West Bengal, is one of the world's premier mountaineering institutes. Established on November 4, 1954, by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, it commemorates the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary.
Often referred to as the "Mecca of Indian Mountaineering," HMI has trained thousands of individuals in mountaineering and adventure activities.
