Mukundara Hills National Park near Kota, Rajasthan, covers about 760 square kilometers and includes three wildlife sanctuaries: Darrah, Chambal, and Jawahar Sagar. Established in 2004 and declared a tiger reserve in 2013, it is Rajasthan's third tiger reserve after Ranthambore and Sariska.
The park is located in a valley between two parallel hills, surrounded by four rivers; Chambal, Kali, Ahu, and Ramzan and consists mainly of dry deciduous forests with dense vegetation. It hosts a wide variety of wildlife including Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian wolves, chital, nilgai, wild boars, and many bird species, along with reptiles like mugger crocodiles and gharials.
The park was once the royal hunting ground of the Maharaja of Kota and now serves as a critical habitat for endangered species, offering a rich biodiversity experience amid rugged terrain and riverine landscapes. The best time to visit is from October to June, as the park is closed during the monsoon season.
