Namdapha National Park

Namdapha National Park, located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh near the India-Myanmar border, is one of India's largest protected areas, covering about 1,985 square kilometers. Established as a national park and tiger reserve in 1983, it is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, hosting over 1,000 species of plants and around 1,400 species of animals.

The park features a diverse range of habitats, from tropical evergreen rainforests to alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks, spanning an altitude from 200 to over 4,500 meters. It is home to rare and endangered wildlife including all four big cat species found in India—the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, clouded leopard, and snow leopard—along with other animals like the red panda and Asiatic black bear. The Noa Dihing River flows through the park, enhancing its scenic beauty and ecological significance. Namdapha is also a birdwatcher's paradise, hosting over 400 bird species including the great Indian hornbill and white-bellied heron.

The park is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot at the confluence of the Himalayas, Indo-Burma, and Sundaland regions, making it a critical area for conservation and ecological research. It offers opportunities for trekking, wildlife photography, and experiencing the rich cultural heritage of the local tribal communities. The park operates year-round, although the monsoon season brings heavy rain that can make visitation difficult.
