Naneghat
Naneghat, also referred to as Nanaghat or Nana Ghat, is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range between the Konkan coast and the ancient town of Junnar in the Deccan plateau. The pass is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Pune and 165 kilometers (103 miles) east from Mumbai.
Naneghat is famous for its ancient cave with inscriptions in Brahmi script and Middle Indo-Aryan dialect, dating back to the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE. These inscriptions are attributed to the Satavahana dynasty and are notable for linking Vedic and Hindu deities, mentioning Vedic rituals, and providing historical information about the Satavahanas.
The cave also features the world's oldest numeration symbols for numbers like 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9.
