National War Memorial
The National War Memorial in New Delhi is a solemn tribute to the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. Inaugurated on February 25, 2019, and located near India Gate, the memorial honors over 25,000 soldiers who laid down their lives in conflicts since independence, including the wars of 1947–48, 1962, 1965, 1971, and Kargil, as well as operations like Pawan and Rakshak.
Spread across 40 acres, the memorial is designed in the form of a Chakravyuh, with four concentric circles: Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality) housing the eternal flame, Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery) with bronze murals of key battles, Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) inscribed with names of the fallen, and Rakshak Chakra (Circle of Protection) lined with trees symbolizing guardianship.
