The first successful ascent of Nilgiri Parbat was made in 1937 by Frank Smythe, who navigated the southeast ridge to reach the summit. The peak is surrounded by glaciers, including the Khulia Garvia Glacier on the western side and the Ratabon Glacier on the eastern side.
