Nivedita Bridge
Nivedita Setu, also known as the Second Vivekananda Bridge, is a multi-span extradosed bridge spanning the Hooghly River, connecting Bally, Howrah with Dakshineswar, Kolkata. Opened in July 2007, it was built to reduce traffic congestion on the Vivekananda Setu, which was constructed in 1932.
The bridge is named after Sister Nivedita, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, and is one of only five roadway bridges crossing the Hooghly River within the Kolkata metropolitan region. The bridge is 880 meters (2,890 feet) long and 29 meters (95 feet) wide, carrying six lanes of high-speed traffic. It is designed to accommodate 48,000 vehicles per day and is part of the Belghoria Expressway, which connects major highways NH-16, NH-19, NH-12, and the Kalyani Expressway.
The bridge was constructed by Larsen & Toubro and is maintained by the Second Vivekananda Bridge Tollway Company Pvt. Ltd.
