Old Baba Mandir, also known as Harbhajan Babaji ka Bunker, is a revered shrine located in East Sikkim, near the Nathula Pass. It is dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh, an Indian soldier who died during the Indo-China War in 1968. According to legend, Baba Harbhajan Singh appeared in a dream to a fellow soldier and requested that a memorial be built in his honor.
The temple is situated at an elevation of around 4,000 meters and requires climbing 50 stairs to reach the bunker where the samadhi (memorial) was constructed. The site is maintained by the Indian Army and is visited by thousands of tourists and devotees each year. The shrine features a bed, boots, and uniform of Baba Harbhajan Singh, which are kept as if he were still alive.
Devotees believe that his spirit continues to perform his duties and protect the soldiers.
