Panchkund Chattriya

Panchkund Chattriya in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is a hidden gem that often escapes the attention of tourists. While Jodhpur is renowned for its majestic forts and palaces, this site holds historical significance and architectural beauty that deserves recognition.

Located on the outskirts of the city, Panchkund Chattriya consists of a collection of 46 cenotaphs, built in honor of the queens of Mandore and Jodhpur. These sandstone structures, though weathered by time, still stand as a testament to the grandeur of Rajasthani architecture. Unlike the more frequented Jaswant Thada, these cenotaphs remain largely untouched by restoration efforts, lending them an air of mystery and antiquity.

The site is also home to monuments dedicated to notable Marwar rulers such as Rao Chunada, Rao Ranmal, and Rao Ganga. Among these, the cenotaph of Maharani Surya Kangar Ji, daughter of Naresh Pratap Singh Ji of Jaipur, is particularly striking, featuring intricate carvings and a footprint inscription within a marble structure.

Despite its historical importance, Panchkund Chattriya remains relatively unknown to mainstream tourists, though it has found favor among filmmakers, with scenes from Bollywood movies and television serials being shot here.

The best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the serene and evocative atmosphere of this remarkable site. The presence of monkeys and pigeons adds to the untouched feel of the place, making it a fascinating destination for those interested in history and architecture.
