Papi Hills

Papi Hills, locally known as Papikondalu, are a mesmerizing stretch of forested mountain ranges that run along the banks of the Godavari River in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. The name “Papikondalu” originates from the Telugu word “Papidi,” meaning partition, as the hills appear to split the river like the parting in a woman’s hair.

This natural spectacle becomes even more enchanting as the mighty Godavari narrows and twists through the hills, creating a gorge that’s often compared to the scenic beauty of Kashmir. The best way to experience Papi Hills is by boat, with journeys starting from Rajahmundry or Bhadrachalam. These rides, lasting up to eight hours, glide through tranquil waters surrounded by lush greenery, drifting sandbanks, and the occasional sighting of fish darting beneath the surface.

Along the way, travelers encounter serene villages like Perantalapalli and Pattiseema, each with its own spiritual and cultural significance. Tribal communities inhabit the hills, practicing age-old traditions of farming, fishing, and handicrafts, adding a rich human tapestry to the natural landscape.
