Peterhoff, also known as the Peterhof, is a historic building in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, that played a significant role during the British Raj in India. Built in 1863, the structure once served as the residence for at least seven Governors-General and Viceroys of India. The building, designed in Tudor style, features wooden frames and shingled eaves.
After India's independence, Peterhoff was used as the Punjab High Court, where the trial of Nathuram Godse—the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi—took place in 1948. The building became the Raj Bhavan of Himachal Pradesh in 1971 before a fire severely damaged it in 1981. Subsequently, it was rebuilt in 1991 and transformed into a luxury heritage hotel managed by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC).
Today, Peterhoff continues to attract tourists with its rich historical significance and scenic views overlooking the majestic Himalayan ranges.
