Purana Qila
Purana Qila, or Old Fort, is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. Built by Mughal Emperor Humayun and later strengthened by Sher Shah Suri, the fort dates back to the 16th century. It is believed to be located on the ancient site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata.
Excavations have revealed traces of habitation dating back to 1000 BC, supporting its historical significance. The fort features massive walls, three grand gateways, and structures such as the Sher Mandal, a double-story octagonal tower built by Sher Shah Suri.
The Qila also houses the Qila-e-Kuhna Mosque, an architectural masterpiece showcasing Indo-Islamic design.
