Raj Bhavan in Kolkata is the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal. Built in 1803, it was originally known as Government House during the British era.
The structure was designed by Captain Charles Wyatt and exhibits a neoclassical architectural style with baroque influences. During the colonial period, it served as the residence of the Viceroy of India until the capital was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911.
After India's independence in 1947, it became the residence of the Governor of West Bengal. The building spans approximately 84,000 square feet and is surrounded by vast gardens, adding to its grandeur. Over the years, several modifications have been made, including the addition of a metallic dome in the 1860s.
