Rajsamand Lake, also known as Rajsamudra Lake, is a stunning artificial lake located in Rajsamand, Rajasthan, about 67 kilometers from Udaipur. It was constructed in the 17th century by Maharana Raj Singh I to counter the effects of a severe drought and to provide employment during that time.
The lake spans approximately 4 miles in length, 1.75 miles in width, and has a depth of about 60 feet.
The lake is fed by the Gomti, Kelwa, and Tali rivers, and its southern embankment, known as Nauchowki, is adorned with intricately carved marble terraces, steps, and pavilions. These pavilions feature inscriptions detailing the history of Mewar, including the genealogy of its rulers2. The serene waters of the lake reflect the surrounding hills and marble structures, creating a picturesque setting.
