Ralang New Monastery, also known as Ralong Palchen Choling, is a prominent Buddhist monastery of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism in South Sikkim, India. Located about six kilometers from Ravangla, the monastery is renowned for its extensive collection of paintings and thangkas, which reflect the rich artistic heritage of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery was established in 1995 by the 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche, retaining traditional Tibetan architectural elements while incorporating modern construction techniques. It stands as a spiritual center, attracting devotees and tourists alike.
The monastery hosts several important festivals, including Pang Lhabsol, which honors Mount Kangchenjunga, and the Mahakala Dance, a significant ritual performed in the ninth month of the Buddhist calendar. The older Ralang Gompa, also known as Karma Rabtenling Monastery, is located nearby and holds historical significance, having been originally built in 1768.
