Rama Tirtha
Rama Tirtha is a sacred site located near Jashipur town in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, beneath the Similipal National Park. According to mythology, during the Treta Yuga, Lord Sri Rama, along with Devi Sita and Lakshman, passed through the forest of Similipal. Due to tiredness, Sita sat on a plateau for a while and washed her face and feet in the river flowing beneath.
This place became known as Rama Tirtha in honor of Sri Rama and Devi Sita.
The site is also home to the Ramatirtha Crocodile Project, the only crocodile rearing center in the Mayurbhanj district. The project was initiated in 1975 and has successfully revived crocodile populations in the region. The temple at Rama Tirtha is a popular pilgrimage site, especially during the Makar Sankranti festival, when the Tusu Parab or Tusumelana festival is celebrated.
