Ramabhar Stupa, also known as Mukutbandhan Chaitya, is an ancient stupa located in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites as it is believed to be the cremation site of Lord Buddha.
According to Buddhist traditions, this is where Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana, or the final nirvana after death, in 483 BC. The stupa was built by the Malla Kings who ruled over Kushinagar during Buddha's time.
The stupa stands on a high mound and is surrounded by a serene environment, making it a peaceful place for meditation and reflection. It is made of bricks and is about 14.9 meters high, with a circular drum measuring 34.14 meters in diameter at the top. Nearby, there is a pond called Ramabhar Jheel, which dries up during the hot summer months.
