Ramgarh Lake
Ramgarh Lake, located near Jamwa Ramgarh about 32 kilometers from Jaipur in Rajasthan, is a man-made reservoir created in 1876 by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II to provide water relief to the region. It once covered an area of around 15.5 square kilometers and served as the main water source for Jaipur city until it dried up around the year 2000.
The lake was also notable for hosting the rowing events during the 1982 Asian Games. Surrounded by dense forests declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1982, the area teems with wildlife such as Nilgai and Chital. The Ramgarh region also features attractions like the Jamwa Mata temple and one of India's best polo grounds situated between the lake and the Aravalli Hills.
The lake's water sources have diminished due to deforestation and encroachment in the catchment area, leading to the lake's current dry state. Despite this, Ramgarh remains a popular tourist destination for its scenic beauty, wildlife, and historical significance. Efforts for the lake's revival have been initiated in recent years.
