Ranchhod Ray Temple

Ranchhod Ray Temple, also known as Ranchhodrai Temple, is a revered Hindu temple located in Dakor, near Nadiad in Kheda district, Gujarat. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the temple is an important pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from across the country.

The temple's history dates back to 1772 AD, when it was built as a grand structure to honor Ranchhodji, a name for Lord Krishna meaning "he who left the battlefield." The temple complex is enclosed by a fort wall and is situated near the bank of the holy Gomti lake, adding to its spiritual ambiance.

Architecturally, the temple is adorned with eight domes and twenty-four turrets, with the central dome reaching a height of twenty-seven meters. The temple's main idol, made of black touchstone, is richly decorated with gold, jewels, and fine clothing, reflecting the grandeur of its heritage.

The throne of the deity, an exquisite piece of woodcarving plated in silver and gold, was a gift from the Gaekwad of Baroda. The temple also features a music room where devotional tunes are played every three hours, enhancing the spiritual experience for visitors. Dakor itself has a rich mythological background, with legends linking it to the Mahabharata era. The town was once known as Dankpur, named after the sage Dank Rishi, who performed penance here.

Over time, Dakor evolved into a significant Vaishnavite center, drawing devotees who seek blessings from Lord Krishna. The temple remains a focal point of religious festivities, especially during full moon days when thousands of pilgrims gather to offer prayers.
