Rothney Castle was once the residence of Allan Octavian Hume, a British civil servant known as the Father of Indian Ornithology and one of the founders of the Indian National Congress. During his time in Shimla, Hume invested significantly in transforming the place into a beautiful residence, employing European gardeners to maintain the property.
