Rudranath Temple, located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, is one of the five sacred temples collectively known as the Panch Kedar. Situated at an altitude of 3,600 meters (11,800 feet), the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have been established by the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
According to legend, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva's forgiveness for their sins committed during the Kurukshetra war. Lord Shiva, eluding them, took the form of a bull and dived into the earth, with his face emerging at Rudranath. The temple is nestled within a dense forest of rhododendron dwarfs and alpine pastures, offering a serene and spiritual environment.
The trek to Rudranath Temple starts from Sagar Village, approximately 3 kilometers away from Gopeshwar, and covers a distance of around 24 kilometers. The trek passes through verdant forests and pristine alpine meadows, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience for trekkers.
