Sajnakhali Wildlife Sanctuary in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, covers about 362 square kilometers and is located at the confluence of the Matla and Gumdi rivers within the Sundarbans delta. Established in 1976, it is primarily a mangrove habitat with dense forests, swamps, and tidal waterways that support a rich diversity of wildlife including Royal Bengal tigers, spotted deer, rhesus macaques, water monitor lizards, crocodiles, and otters.
The sanctuary is a haven for birdwatchers, hosting many resident and migratory birds such as pelicans, herons, eagles, storks, and kingfishers.
