Sanghak Choeling Monastery
Sanghak Choeling Monastery, also known as Sanga Choeling Monastery, is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. It was established in the 17th century by Lama Lhatsün Chempo and is located in Pelling, about 10 kilometers from Gyalshing. The monastery's name means "Island of the Guhyamantra teachings," which refers to the secret Mantra teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism.
The monastery is situated on a ridge top, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-clad mountains and lush greenery. To reach the monastery, visitors must walk for about 40 minutes through a forest on a steep hill slope, but the effort is well worth it.
Inside the monastery, you'll find ancient wall paintings, statues, unique clay structures, and scriptures dating back to the 17th century.
