Sawai Man Singh Wildlife Sanctuary

Sawai Man Singh Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 9-10 km from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, covers around 103 to 128 square kilometers and lies at the meeting point of the Aravalli and Vindhya hill ranges.

It serves as the southern buffer zone to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, creating an important habitat and wildlife corridor. The sanctuary features dry deciduous forests with diverse flora such as Dhok, Butea, and Salar trees, and shelters a rich variety of fauna including Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, sloth bears, chinkara, nilgai, sambhar deer, wild boars, jackals, hyenas, and numerous bird species. Its varied terrain of rocky hills, plateaus, and valleys with seasonal streams supports significant biodiversity.

Established in 1984 and named after Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur, the sanctuary includes ecotourism spots like Balas and Kundhal, popular for activities such as trekking, bird watching, camping, and boating. The best time to visit is from October to March when the weather is pleasant.

Sawai Man Singh Wildlife Sanctuary plays a crucial role in conservation, offering a less crowded but ecologically rich wilderness experience close to the famous Ranthambore National Park.
