It is the cathedral of the Latin Church Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and the seat of the Patriarch of the East Indies. The cathedral is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Churches and Convents of Goa.
Built to commemorate the Portuguese victory over a Muslim army in 1510, the Se Cathedral was consecrated in 1640. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, as the victory occurred on her feast day. The architecture of the Se Cathedral is Portuguese-Manueline, with a Tuscan exterior and a Corinthian interior. The cathedral is 250 feet long, 181 feet wide, and 115 feet high.
One of the most notable features of the Se Cathedral is its large bell, known as the "Golden Bell," which is said to be one of the largest and best in the world. The cathedral also houses several old paintings depicting the life of Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
