Shaktipeeth Shri Kiriteswari Temple, West Bengal
The Shaktipeeth Shri Kiriteswari Temple is a revered Hindu temple located in Kiritkona village, under the Nabagram CD block in the Lalbag subdivision of Murshidabad district, West Bengal. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred sites associated with the body parts of Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva.
According to legend, the crown (kirit) of Sati fell at this spot after she immolated herself in protest against her father's treatment of Shiva.
The temple is dedicated to the goddess Vimala, an aspect of Durga, who is worshipped as the presiding deity of the Shakti Peetha. The current structure was rebuilt in the 19th century by Darpanarayan, the king of Lalgola, after the original temple was destroyed in 1405.
The temple is known for its beautiful architecture, including a char-chala roof and an ek-bangla porch.
The temple is especially crowded during the annual Durga Puja festival, when devotees flock to the shrine to offer prayers and seek blessings from the goddess. The temple is open to the public all day long, and visitors are expected to dress modestly. Photography is allowed inside the temple.
