The Sohagi Barwa Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh, approximately 56 kilometers from Gorakhpur and 50 kilometers from Maharajganj. The sanctuary was established in 1987 and covers an area of 428.2 square kilometers. It is situated on the west bank of the Gandaki River, near the border with Nepal.
The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, cheetahs, bears, wildcats, wild boars, pythons, and many more. It is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) due to its rich avifauna.
