Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Nainital, Uttarakhand, spans over 301 square kilometers in the Shiwalik Terai region and is a vital part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. Named after the Sonanadi River, meaning "river of gold" due to historical gold panning, the sanctuary features dense forests of sal, sheesham, bamboo, and other diverse plant species.
It is home to a rich variety of wildlife including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards, sambhar deer, barking deer, and wild boars. The sanctuary also hosts more than 550 bird species, making it a prime destination for birdwatchers. Open mainly from October to June, visitors can enjoy jeep or elephant safaris to explore its natural beauty and abundant fauna in a well-protected environment.
