The Srisailam Reservoir, also known as the Neelam Sanjeevareddy Sagar, is located across the Krishna River in the Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh and the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana. It is one of the largest reservoirs in India and serves multiple purposes, including hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, and water supply.
The Srisailam Dam, which creates the reservoir, stands at a height of 145.10 meters (476 feet) and extends to a length of 512 meters (1,680 feet). The reservoir has a total capacity of 216 Tmcft (thousand million cubic feet). The dam is equipped with both left bank and right bank power stations, with a combined installed capacity of 1,670 MW.
Apart from its functional significance, the Srisailam Reservoir is a popular tourist destination. Visitors are drawn to its scenic views and the various recreational activities it offers. The catchment area of the reservoir covers 2,06,040 square kilometers (79,550 square miles).
