St. Alex Church, located in Curtorim, South Goa, is one of the oldest churches in the region. Originally built in 1597, it was later reconstructed in 1647, expanding its structure and prominence. The church was officially named after St. Alex through an Apostolic Brief issued on January 13, 1815. Around 1780, its façade underwent significant renovations, enhancing its grandeur.
The church serves as a spiritual center for the local Catholic community, hosting various religious orders, including the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate and the Franciscan Conceptionist Sisters. It also oversees educational institutions such as Our Lady of Carmel High School and social initiatives like the Pao de Sto. Antonio home for the needy.
The parish celebrates the Feast of St. Alex annually on December 18th, drawing a large congregation.
