Stonehenge

The Stonehenge of Manipur, also known as the Megalith Willong Khullen, is an ancient megalithic monument located in the village of Willong Khullen in the Senapati district of Manipur. This site features a series of large, upright stones that are similar in appearance to the famous Stonehenge in England. Some of the tallest stones at this site are around seven meters tall and one meter thick.

Legend has it that these gigantic stone structures were erected by the forefathers of the present-day Maram people. The stones are believed to be infused with spirits and are said to engage in conversations with one another. The villagers believe that the stones mark significant events such as victories in war, merit feasts, and other grand occasions.

Visitors to the site often report hearing the stones talk and exchange pleasantries, adding to the mystical aura of the place. The stones are gendered, with female names like Kanga, Hinga, Hoila, and Tala, and male names like Kabi, Hingba, Luikang, and Taruba. The villagers avoid visiting the site after sunset and before sunrise due to the belief that the stones can induce bad dreams, especially in children and pregnant women.
