Built by the Pandyas in the 6th century, the temple showcases stunning rock-cut architecture.
According to legend, Lord Murugan slayed the demon Surapadman at this site and married his consort Devasena. The temple is also known for its beautiful carvings and intricate sculptures, depicting various mythological scenes. The temple follows the Shaiva tradition of worship and conducts six daily rituals and three yearly festivals, with the Skanda Sashti festival being the most prominent.
