Tamluk Rajbari
Tamluk Rajbari is a historically significant site in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, known for its role in India's freedom movement. It served as a refuge for freedom fighters and played a crucial part in supporting the cause of independence.
During the Salt Satyagraha in 1930, Raja Surendra Narayan Roy allocated a portion of the palace to satyagrahis, demonstrating his commitment to the movement. In 1938, when Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose planned a public meeting in Tamluk, the British government attempted to disrupt it.
In response, freedom fighters sought assistance from Tamluk Rajbari, and Raja Surendra Narayan Roy boldly ordered the cutting down of the entire mango garden within the Rajbari to create space for Netaji's meeting. Despite British interference, the meeting was successfully held within the Rajbari premises, and Netaji was personally welcomed by Raja Surendra Narayan Roy.
The Rajbari also played a key role in shaping the Tamralipta National Government in 1942, hosting swearing-in ceremonies and important meetings. It became a symbol of hope for freedom fighters, offering them a hideout from British police oppression.
Following the downfall of the Tamralipta National Government, the British police subjected the Rajbari to severe brutality.
